Formed in 2019 by five Juilliard students, The Times Square Brass has rapidly ascended in the New York City music scene. Originally brought together to study as a brass quintet, the group's talent and hard work soon garnered recognition nationwide. The quintet had planned to embark on a California tour before the pandemic hit.
The ensemble has already made a significant mark in the music world. They recorded "Bamboozle," a piece for brass quintet by up-and-coming composer Nathan Ost. The members of the group have performed with prestigious orchestras such as the New York Philharmonic, The Metropolitan Opera, Boston Pops, Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra, MusicAeterna, Toronto Symphony Orchestra and many others across the country. Each member has also been invited to participate in some of the country's leading music festivals, including Tanglewood, National Repertory Orchestra, Aspen Music Festival, and Spoleto.
Despite the challenges posed by the
pandemic, The Times Square Brass remains active in the New York City scene, featuring current and former Juilliard students. The group is dedicated to presenting a diverse range of brass quintet music, both known and unknown, to its audiences. They strive to create an engaging and interactive experience that combines entertainment and education, giving their audiences a fun time while showcasing their impressive repertoire.
